Communities of Opportunity (COO) is an actionable response to the health and social disparities which are increasing in the King County region.

As the diversity of our region’s population grows, full inclusion is necessary to achieve shared prosperity.

Communities of Opportunity seeks to promote equity in the King County region in 3 interconnected ways:

  1. A geographic and cultural community focus targeting census tracts ranked in the bottom 35%, and populations living in those tracts, in terms of health, housing and economic well-being.
  2. Through institutional, system and policy change that simultaneously works to bolster positive changes in the places and communities noted in #1.
  3. A learning community or community of shared practice. This learning community provides a space for innovation, highlighting what’s happening and what’s working in geographic and cultural communities and in the policy and systems work. The learning community will accelerate and expand positive change at a regional level.
