Initiative Purpose and Goals:

Our mission is to ensure ALL students are able to reach their full potential by advancing an education model that promotes creativity and the arts for the 21st century workforce. The initiative seeks to insure that all students in grades K-12 have received a standards-based, comprehensive, high quality arts education during the school day.

Create CA is anchored by five organizations: California Department of Education, California Alliance for Arts Education, the California Arts Council, the California County State Superintendents Educational Services Association and California State PTA.

Create CA is a coalition that uses the California Alliance for Arts Education as its fiscal agent.

Measures of Success

California is in the first cohorot of states to participate in the National Arts Ed Data Project. This data will give a clear measurement of which students are receiving arts education and which are not. Each year data current data is submitted to the state so we will have an on-going way to measure progress.

Initiative Activities and Milestones

Activities

Blueprint for Creative Schools features 7 focus areas and over 70 recommendations. This Blueprint provides the goals for our work. Each partner organization has identified key recommendations that they are taking the lead on. For instance, the California Alliance for Arts Education is leading advocacy efforts to re-instate teaching credentials for Theatre and Dance Educators.

The Arts Ed Data Project will effect all goals and recommendations in the Blueprint including supporting arts curriculum, providing quality professional development, ensuring equity and access, building collaborative partnerships, and identifying funding.

Ensuring that the state of California is part of the first cohort of four states to launch the Arts Ed Data Project

Being one of two states to receive a large collective impact grant from the National Endowment for the Arts

Bringing the arts and the Education Equity communities together for the first conversation on how we can support and partner together.

Initiative governance

Create CA worked with a strategic plannier to develop a Strategic Roadmap, Rules and Procedures and a Governance Structure. The organization is guided by a full time Program Director and a Leadership Council composed of five organizational members and nine elected members.
