Initiative Purpose and Goals:

The Philadelphia Youth Network (PYN) is an intermediary organization dedicated to equipping young people with the skills necessary to accomplish academic achievement, economic opportunity and personal success. To succeed in this mission, we bring together cross-sector partners from around the city to expand access to services for under-served youth ages 12-24. PYN works towards the success and advancement of two major citywide initiatives: Project U-Turn and WorkReady Philadelphia. Project U-Turn is a citywide effort to increase the high school graduation through a collective impact strategy, which has since become a nationally recognized model. Currently, 65 percent of Philadelphia's youth are graduating from high school, Project U-Turn has a goal of increasing that number. WorkReady Philadelphia is a campaign created to address the skills gap for unemployed, under-served youth in Philadelphia. In Philadelphia currently, the employment rate for youth ages 16-19 is 15.6 percent, lower than the state and national averages. The goal of WorkReady is to increase the number of youth working across the city.
